MASTER’S COURSE IN LANGUAGE EDUCATION AND TECHNOLOGY

Abstract

This MA attempts to move along two basic strands in the area of Language Education and Technology: a) The Academic, for those wishing to pursue an academic career or approach the topic with a research orientation, and b) The Practical for those wishing to work on the front line either as language teachers, equipped with the necessary technological background, or materials writers and software designers. The modules on offer were carefully chosen to support the above rationale equally balanced throughout the curriculum. During the first two semesters students will be required to attend 3 modules and 1 seminar. The exact meetings will be presented at the beginning of the course and students will know well in advance both the dates and the topics of their classes.

The instructors are not only from Greece. Among them are some of the most renowned and highly acclaimed international scholars and researchers in the field of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) and Educational Technologies. Students wishing to participate in this MA course are not required to possess any prior knowledge in CALL or educational technologies, but basic computer skills would be an advantage.

The course is organised into 3 terms. Students are required to spend 2 of those in Thessaloniki (Gr), while the third can be spent at home writing a supervised dissertation on a selected topic. The Aristotle University is well connected with different ERASMUS programmes giving its students the chance to travel abroad during the year (in periods when there are no classes).
