Abstract

This paper aims to outline the interest of engineering undergraduate students to take part actively in the foreign language class and identify the elements that motivate them to put effort in order to achieve the goal of becoming efficient communicators in English, able to manage successfully in their future careers as engineers. In order to understand the factors that influence the motivation of students in the group referred to above, we have started from the evaluation of theories on motivation in general and ideas related to reasons that stimulate students to learn technical English and, based on the information presented in the research in the field, we have devised a questionnaire to which a number of 103 students answered. This paper presents results we have obtained, based on students’ opinions, and the conclusions thereof.
